According to buzz in the blogosphere, last July VMware COO Tod Nielsen met with Charles Phillips President of Oracle with regards to the ongoing support issues/questions customers experience when using VMware virtualization technology.

Tod Nielsen providing Oracle with a list of over 500 VMware customers asking for Oracle to support their apps running on VMware. Charles appreciated this but stated that this is a challenges for him as he has not pervmware-logo-new-2009-400sonally received this request from customers, and until he does, cannot see making this a priority for his team. So the bottom line is that Oracle doesn’t feel that many people run critical apps on Oracle in a Virtual environment.

Charles claimed the be interested in hearing from VMware/Oracle joint customers on the matter. Therefore, we encourage you to direct your customers to contact Charles directly. This will provide him the direct feedback he seeks in order to better understand the demand and assess the great opportunity for Oracle to leverage the VMware platform to differentiate against Oracle’s main competitors.

This is a great opportunity for virtualization users and for VMware customers in particular to achieve their goals of leveraging virtualization/vSphere as their business critical infrastructure platform.Customers can contact Charles Phillips at Charles.phillips@oracle.com

We know Oracle support and licensing is a pain in the ass, as Edwin recently shared with us. So I know we will contact our VMware/Oracle customers to get this issue out of the way as soon as possible, I hope you will too!
