VMworld Europe 2013 Partner day

VMworld Europe 2013 Partner day

Today was the first day of VMworld Europe 2013 in Barcelona . Traditionally this is VMworld Europe 2013 Partner day and as one of only five Dutch VMware Premier Partners , we must of course be there.

One of the benefits of the Partner day is that it is not extremely  busy . Most participants will arrive tonight or tomorrow , so that makes it the ideal time to do a few Hands-On Labs. The queue was very short , so in the morning I took a lab : “VMware NSX for multi-hypervisor environments”. It’s great to see how the network virtualization is evolving and I really wonder what the added  value of intelligent network hardware will be when this kicks into high gear. The software-based networking is so powerful, so flexible and so easy to manage that even I can manage a complex network infrastructure without knowing anything about the underlying network.

In the afternoon I attended Edwin’s VDI session, “PAR3241 – VMware Horizon View: Finally the Replacement for Server-Based Computing?” Edwin was very nervous during lunch but I think he did a great job and we got a lot of positive feedback already. Kudo’s Edwin! If you want to read more about Edwin’s VDI session, check this article.

In between , the main activity was networking, every year at VMworld I meet many nice people which I only see once a year, at VMworld. The rest of the year it’s only twitter, blogs and facebook. From a networking perspective, VMworld is always a highlight and the networking part is the primary reason why I ‘m happy to back here every year.

All in all it was an informative and fun first VMworld – day . At the end of the day, six of our customers have arrived. We will get them checked in at VMworld an d and the hotel and grab a nice meal to get acquainted. See you all tomorrow.
