Dutch VMUG Roundup

dutchvmug2015Last thursday, 19 March 2015, the dutch VMUG boys organized the VMUG Usercon again. Venue was the 1931 conference center in Den Bosch. This year the total amount of participants went through the roof. The all-time-record for a VMUG conference was not broken, but with more than 900 participants, this certainly is one of the largest VMUG gatherings in the world! This is a sure sign that virtualization and everything surrounding it still is a hot topic and the dutch carry it in their hearts.

The Show

The kickoff was hosted by Joe Baguley, VMware’s CTO for Europe. He had a speech with a lot of humor. After the kickoff, there were several sessions and workshops to choose from. Some sessions were held by VMware folks or by VMware partners. Some sessions were held by users. This is a very strong sign that virtualization really is in the heart of the people. Attending sponsors that were presenting a session were Veeam, Nutanix, Simplivity and Cisco. Topics on the agenda were End User Computing, Software Defined Data Center, Orchestration, Network virtualization with NSX and vSAN 6. If you missed the convention, check out the dutch VMUG website, as the presentations will be published there in the coming days.

Coffee as a Service

Of course VMGuru was present. Erik and AJ built the Coffee as a Service appliance we talked about earlier. They actually made it work! The setup included a Senseo coffee machine, a Raspberry Pi and vCenter Orchestrator. AJ will post all the details on this setup in a couple of weeks. Erik did a session together with Martijn Baecke on Software Defined Data Center with vRealize Operations and vRealize Automation, during which he pointed to our little setup at the VMware stand. After the session the stand was almost run over by folks who wanted to know how we did it! Coffee as a Service was very populair!

Conclusion

After the sessions there was time for a drink and a bite and a bit of networking, accompanied by a three man band who played smooth jazzy music. All in all it was a huge success and we cannot wait for next year’s event. We would like to thank the VMUG counsel for the perfect organization the event and we hope to see you all next year, maybe even on stage, for what then has to be the biggest VMUG conference in the world!
