When they first released the fling they mentioned that it wasn’t complete yet and just last week they released a new version, v1.7.0 build 3921390. This version includes some new features, several improvements and bug fixes.
New Features
- Open remote console from the VM action menu
- Migrate a VM to a Vapp
- Add a standalone host to either a datacenter or a host folder
- Manage Snapshot has the snapshot tree with snapshot details
Improvements
- Guest customization spec list in the clone VM wizard is now filtered by guest OS
- See faults if a VM on a DRS-enabled cluster cannot be powered on
- Icons have been updated
Bug Fixes
- VM Snapshot error “Cannot read property ‘rootSnapshotList’ of undefined”
- Error “Cannot read property ‘length’ of null”
- Customize guest OS when deploying VM from template
The previous version of the HTML5 Web Client fling already had a pretty long list of features:
- Create VM on a Host
- Clone to Template/VM
- Select a datastore cluster as storage when creating a VM
- Customize guest OS when cloning a VM (basic)
- VM Edit Settings
- VM Power Operations
- VM Migration (only to a Host)
- Migrate a VM’s compute resource to a resource pool
- VM Console
- Take snapshot of a VM.
- Revert to Latest Snapshot
- VM and Host Summary pages
- Add a new cluster workflow (basic)
- Remove a cluster
- Overview DRS and HA status for clusters
- HA: responses to some failure conditions for a cluster can be viewed
- EVC status for clusters can be viewed and edited
- Additional monitoring views (Performance charts, Tasks, Events)
- Global Views (Recent tasks, Alarms–view only)
- View Certificate information for a host
- Read only view of host profile information in host settings
- Read only view of the lockdown mode and exception users for a host
- View Lockdown Mode in Security Profile settings of a host
- Upload a file to a Datastore
- View port groups for standard switches
To me this last update is a welcome one, specially after the announcement that the vSphere C# client is going away the HTML5 Web Client can be a very nice addition.
